Once upon a time ARTISTS were ARCHITECTS, and ARCHITECTS were ARTISTS.
Today the disciplines of art and architecture are apart. Architects design buildings for clients with a brief in mind, whereas artists can give free rein to their ideas. But many architects still like the idea of being an artist, or at least the idea of architecture as a creative and imaginative discipline. And there is a new trend of architects and artists working together, especially on bigger public projects.
‘A Bridge to Nature’ is an artist’s architecture project of mine about huts and tracks in the Fiordland national parc. It gained a ‘Summe Cum Laude’ from the University of Architecture Paris-Villemin, an honor for work that is considered to be of highest quality….this is a long time ago now, when computers weren’t used and hand drawings were the way to go!
